Our history
From the post-war era to today: over 70 years of continuous growth.
The origins
After WWII, Valdo Franceschi began trading bearings and gearboxes in a small shop in Parma, near the old prison, under the name O. Franceschi. In the 1960s Ermanno Franceschi and his wife Laura joined the company; in 1973 Ermanno took over the business, giving rise to FMI.
New headquarters in Via Baganzola
As the business grew and the Via Scarabelli Zunti site became insufficient, the company purchased a 4,000 sqm area in Via Baganzola, near the northern bypass, 1,800 sqm of which dedicated to warehousing.
Second generation
The new FMI operational headquarters and warehouse open in Via Baganzola. That same year, sons Luca and Daniela permanently join the company.
First quality certification
FMI obtains its first Quality System certification under the UNI EN ISO 9002 standard.
New cutting centre
Production is strengthened with a new cutting centre for linear guides and transmission chains.
Office expansion
The management offices are expanded by 300 sqm to accommodate the new people joining the company.
First BEST Dealer in Italy
FMI becomes the first BEST Dealer in Italy, gaining the ability to assemble gear reducers from components and boosting Bonfiglioli product sales through new plant investments.
Automated warehouse
FMI installs a 1,000 sqm automated warehouse, improving storage capacity and service efficiency.
Warehouse doubled and ISO 9001:2015
The automated warehouse is doubled to a 2,000 sqm capacity. That same year FMI obtains the upgrade to the UNI EN ISO 9001:2015 standard.
World's first BEST GOLD Dealer
FMI becomes the world's first BEST GOLD Dealer, obtaining a TÜV Italia certification that guarantees high global standards of quality, service, safety and ethics for Bonfiglioli products.
Semi-automated warehouse
A new semi-automated warehouse with a 650-pallet capacity is built.
New offices under construction
Construction begins on the new offices, which will offer more space for the new people joining the company.
New offices and Business Central
The new offices are inaugurated and the new Microsoft Business Central management system goes live.
